Date: 2013-04-29 10:28 am (UTC)Good point that the Hasmoneans eventually became a very bloodthirsty and expansionist empire. I don't think we have much evidence about them beyond their own propaganda and their enemies' denigration! Sounds like I should read Sebag Montefiore, though.
