During the book I read the Marit/Three Seagreass fight as arising from Marit's sensitivity to Teixcalaanli attitudes towards Lsel "barbarians", with Reed being unable to quite escape them despite her best efforts. By the end I wondered if it was really Marit's last-ditch attempt to hold onto her Lsel identity. That's rather unfair on Reed, of course, since she really isn't the problem.
